 A great gift for a newborn boyJan 09, 2009
I have given this bear as a gift to all of my baby cousins and as baby shower gifts, and it is always very well received. The bear is durable and quite fluffy and beautiful. The option of naming a star after a child makes this so much more than a stuffed animal! It is a keepsake, it is educational (the child or mother can pick out a constellation and get the star's coordinates),and very meaningful for the child who will someday look to the heavens to find his or her star.
I have given over 20 of these Shining Stars to friends and family as gifts, and they have always been thrilled with the quality of the animal and touched by the naming of a star after them. It makes a terrific gift!

This is an adorable stuffed animal, really soft and super cute.
The stuffed animal arrives with a tag that contains information to go to a website and name your own star in the sky!! I realize it's marketing, and not as if you now own an actual star in the sky, but it's a neat idea.
The website shows you exactly where your star is in the night sky, allows you to name it anything you want to, commemorate a special date, and play online games through the Shining Stars website.
It's a very simple, personalized, easy gift that would be great for a birthday for a young child, or for a new baby. There are a lot of different animals to choose from.
As far as the "educational value" I gave it 4 stars because we talk to my son about the stars, point out the area in the sky where "his star" is, and talk about constellations. That also lends to the high rating for the "fun" aspect.

I think the idea behind "NAMING A STAR" is a very interesting concept to gift recipients. However, I was somewhat disappointed in the actual product (stuffed animal). The animal was rather "flimsy" and seem to have loose fur. I would not recommend allowing a small child to "play" with the stuffed animal.
